About Nova Roma
Nova Roma Horizon Innovation Society is a non-profit organization conceived as an "innovation sanctuary" dedicated to cultivating talent and supporting a broader investment strategy. Our primary mission is to foster a safe and encouraging environment where entrepreneurs can pursue self-determined paths without the rigid constraints of traditional careers. We define innovators as individuals who willingly forego stability for the flexibility to remain opportunistic.
Our Vision
We aim to be the trusted, local alternative that genuinely invests in students and the Canadian ecosystem, actively countering extractive models and establishing ourselves as a central hub for innovation. Our long-term vision is to develop an "AI-native workforce" and support "career innovators" who thrive on flexibility and opportunity.
What We Do – Our Core Pillars
- Talent Pipeline & AI Workforce Development: We train individuals in strategic, high-demand skills such as business process mapping, problem-first research, and the application of agentic AI. This initiative is designed to create an "AI-ready" workforce for Canadian businesses, addressing the existing gap in AI adoption. Through our "timeshare consultant" or "next-gen co-op" model, Nova Roma hires and coaches students to serve Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) that require AI process adoption but lack internal capabilities.
- Flexible Work for Innovators: We provide high-skill, flexible gig work opportunities for entrepreneurs. This enables them to engage in paid consulting through Nova Roma during slower periods of their own ventures, allowing for a seamless transition back to their startups when momentum builds, thereby avoiding the all-or-nothing leap often required when leaving a traditional 9-to-5 job.
- Ecosystem Hub & Channel Partnership: Functioning as a central hub, Nova Roma amplifies communication and collaboration across four key domains: Governance (NGOs, think tanks), Education (schools, universities), Industry, and Capital. We act as a crucial "channel partnership," enhancing the flow of capital, intellectual property, and talent between these vital sectors.
- Grant-Leveraged Project Facilitation: We identify fundable opportunities and coordinate "off-takers" (organizations that benefit from deployed assets or services) for grant-funded projects. By leveraging our non-profit status, we can often stack multiple government funds, significantly reducing project costs for our partners. Furthermore, we are developing AI-powered tools to automate and streamline the grant application process, serving both our internal needs and offering this as a service to our partners.
Our Approach to Sustainability
Nova Roma is designed to be a self-sustaining ecosystem. While for-profit entities may operate on the periphery to capture value, our core non-profit remains "pure," managed for the public good. Our sustainability is primarily driven by service revenues, such as corporate training subscriptions, rather than relying solely on donations. We also aim to offer strategic partners access to deal flow and innovation in exchange for initial funding, thereby establishing Nova Roma as a valuable hub that attracts ongoing engagement and subscriptions.
Commitment to the Canadian Economy
Ultimately, Nova Roma is dedicated to contributing to a more innovative and resilient Canadian economy, embodying long-term, mission-driven goals. We aspire to become the primary, trusted player in fostering innovation and connecting talent with capital within the Canadian ecosystem.
